Brazil recorded 450,000 occupational accidents in 2020
According to a report released in May 2021 by the Brazilian Public Ministry of Labor (MPT) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), Brazil recorded 446,881 occupational accidents in 2020 alone, from which 1,866 resulted in deaths. Considering the period between 2002 and 2020, the state of Minas Gerais comes in second place in numbers of injured professionals, 46,901, behind São Paulo alone, with 148,103. Amongst the G20 countries, Brazil ranks second in mortality at work, with 8 deaths per 100,000 employment relationships. It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that these numbers decrease, so that tragedies like the one in Brumadinho never happen again.
